The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (ARNP), Wellpath Consultant within their scope of practice, assumes responsibility for the admission, continuing care, and discharge of Persons Served (P/S). This role is a key member of the treatment team, and participates in hospital-wide performance improvement and other activities.
- Graduate from a graduate nursing program at an accredited college or university school
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience as an ARNP
- Psychiatric experience preferred and/or experience in a residential healthcare institution.
- Licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in the state of employment.
ResponsibilitiesThe Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (ARNP), Wellpath Consultant works under the supervision of a Psychiatrist. in accordance with established protocols per the applicable state guidelines.Performs the Admission and assessment of P/S served with psychiatric disorders. Includes comprehensive initial psychiatric evaluations, mental status examination, assessment for movement disorders, general medical assessment as it applies to the psychiatric exam, assessments for court pertaining to involuntary admission and need for involuntary medications, and other assessments as needed.Treatment of P/S with psychiatric disorders which includes prescription of medications, following practice guidelines, psychotherapy (group, individual, and family as warranted), ordering and providing consultations as needed, follow-up and monitoring of tests and medical consultations, provide education on diagnosis, medications and other aspects of treatment to patients and their families, associated documentation, determination of discharge readiness, chemical dependency and alcohol dependency treatment, on-call responsibilities.Documents all relevant patient care issues in patients' progress notes and treatment plan.Thorough understanding of documentation requirements, disaster and fire procedures, infection control, and clinical risk management.Participates in psychiatric on-call schedule as directed by the Medical Director, Wellpath Consultant.Ensures progress note and treatment plan documentation is in specified format, problem oriented, and is legible.Ensures all documentation is dated, timed, legible, problem oriented and signed.Adheres to the established formulary for therapeutic regimens before using non-formulary medications.Perform other duties as assigned.
